Gazprom<\/i><\/b><\/a> announced Sunday the construction of\u00a0the\u00a0TurkStream\u00a0gas pipeline<\/i><\/b> was commenced today in\u00a0the Black Sea near the Russian coast. Pipelaying is\u00a0carried out by\u00a0the Audacia vessel owned by\u00a0Allseas, the construction contractor for both strings of\u00a0the gas pipeline’s offshore section. The vessel will be\u00a0also used for pipe pulling through microtunnels. Construction works for the TurkStream gas pipeline in\u00a0the deep-water area will be\u00a0performed by\u00a0the Pioneering Spirit pipe-laying vessel.<\/span><\/p>\n

‘Today, we\u00a0started the practical implementation of\u00a0the TurkStream gas pipeline project: pipe-laying within the offshore section. By\u00a0late 2019, our Turkish and European consumers will have a\u00a0new, reliable source of\u00a0Russian gas imports,’ said\u00a0Alexey Miller, Chairman of\u00a0the Gazprom Management Committee.<\/span><\/p>\n

Background<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

TurkStream is\u00a0the project for a\u00a0transit-free export gas pipeline stretching across the Black Sea from Russia to\u00a0Turkey and further to\u00a0Turkey’s border with neighbouring countries. The first string of\u00a0the gas pipeline is\u00a0intended for Turkish consumers, while the second string will deliver gas to\u00a0southern and southeastern Europe. Each string will have the throughput capacity of\u00a015.75 billion cubic meters of\u00a0gas per year. On\u00a0October 10, 2016, Russia and Turkey signed the Intergovernmental Agreement on\u00a0the TurkStream project. South Stream Transport B.V., a\u00a0wholly-owned subsidiary of\u00a0Gazprom, is\u00a0responsible for the construction of\u00a0the gas pipeline’s offshore section.<\/span><\/p>\n
